Do life’s questions take hold of you?
Does life itself become questionable?
Do you find yourself wondering…
…how you arrived where you are?
…whether you’ll ever find a sense of belonging?
…why you feel hollow or fake, despite your accomplishments?
…when your regrets will stop haunting you?
…whether the world is broken, or just you?
These may or may not be your questions (some have certainly been mine).
You might struggle to articulate exactly what is questionable to you, let alone discuss it with others. It may seem unspeakable. Yet we all hold questions, and we need companionship to uncover and address what they’re pointing to. These sorts of questions cannot be answered bluntly. They have to be lived, and that takes courage, dialogue, and time.
I’m a licensed therapist at Seattle Anxiety Specialists. I offer an attentive, patient, and trusting relationship as a way to explore your questions. Those questions may seem like barriers now, when really they are trying to tell you something about the deeper concerns in which they are rooted. We are, after all, beings driven by care: we crave connection, clarity, meaning, and purpose.
My aim as a therapist is to help you find and cultivate this care that may be scared, wounded, lost, or buried amidst the demands of everyday life. My approach has three main aspects:
Relationship
To truly face what is questionable, you need accompaniment. Challenging exploration happens by way of authentic connection. I thus bring my full self into the therapeutic encounter, creating an environment in which you are comfortable doing so as well. This allows the therapy to take a natural course pursuing whatever arises, rather than a fixed path constrained by a predetermined agenda.
thoughtful attention
As someone accompanying you into your questions, I am more than a passive observer. I certainly strive to notice and bear witness to your experience, but will also engage in and encourage focused reflection on what you bring to our sessions. We will cultivate a joint awareness of your world, its emotional depths, and the questionability it bears for you.
attention to thought
It will be particularly fruitful to delve into the many layers of thought that make up and shape your lived experience. In recognizing your own patterns of thought and interpretation, you may also come to understand the motives and meanings that find expression in your life and its questions. My ultimate hope is that this helps you retrieve a sense of identity, agency, and possibility.
